There is never a reason to panic

Probably THE biggest take-away I’ve had in the last year is not tactical…

It didn’t come from a video called “3 Facebook hacks to game the algorithm and trick people into becoming your customer.”

It was a lesson in mindset.

I know a lot of you are starting out and there are hundreds of new tools and strategies crossing your desk every day.

You have to install Google Tag Manager, heatmaps, set up your conversion API and aggregated events,

You’re on a coaching call with me, and 30 other merchants, and I’m hounding you to click the hamburger menu in the top left and scroll through 87 menu items.

When something doesn’t work the first time, it’s tempting to give up.

When it doesn’t work the second time, the urge to take the rest of the day off and have a nap is huge.

When it doesn’t work the third time, well, I hope my keyboard has Apple Care.

My team and I deal with these frustrations every day.

Just like you.

These are professionals that have been doing this for several years, sometimes decades.

This is why one of our core values is PATIENCE.

The key to remember is that with 98% of these frustrations,

Once you solve them, they’re DONE.

You never have to solve them again.

And you learned something along the way.

I had one student message me saying she couldn’t get her Klaviyo pop-up to display.

She had sent 9 angry messages to Klaviyo without reply and was literally in tears.

We looked at it together, and lo and behold, the checkbox was ticked to ‘only show to existing Klaviyo profiles’.

One click and she was off to the races, never to look back.

There are a couple of takeaways here:

Being angry or emotional will NOT help your issue get solved. In fact, it’s usually the opposite.

Klaviyo has amazing support. But do you think anyone was excited to start a conversation with someone who was bringing that kind of energy?

Your mind shuts down when it’s flooded with cortisol. You can’t think clearly or rationally when you’re panicked and overwhelmed.

The above are small problems. It helps to create a procedure that systematically solves issues over the weeks and months (more on this to come).

Trust the Process!

That last one, I would like to give credit to one of our star students, Damien at Change Toothpaste :)

And finally, a quote:

"Two elements must therefore be rooted out once for all, - the fear of future suffering, and the recollection of past suffering; since the latter no longer concerns me, and the former concerns me not yet." - Letter 78, Letters from a Stoic, Seneca
