The only 3 marketing skills you need to master as an eCom business owner [Part 1]
Every day I see articles about the next big thing in AI and automation.
It seems like in the next few years, there won’t be anything left for humans to do.
Will we be lounging by pools eating grapes all day?
Probably not.
We’re still going to have to eke out our living.
Actually, scratch that.
There will be no ekeing.
We want to flourish.
In this 3-part series, I want to talk to you about the skill-sets that will never go out of style,
The skills that will never become (fully) automated,
The skills that ACTUALLY generate revenue for your business.
SKILL #1: COPYWRITING
The ability to influence others with the written word,
To be able to inspire people to take action with squiggly symbols on a page.
This is a tough one.
It’s hard because it seems like it requires a God-given talent,
Something that certain people are born with and others aren’t.
This is FALSE.
If you have a basic understanding of the English language (or any other language, for that matter),
You can write compelling copy.
It helps if you have a foundation of how to use proper grammar and sentence structure,
But there are free tools that can squash that prerequisite.
Yes, there are AI platforms that claim to be able to write copy that sounds like a human wrote it.
It helps with ideation and not having to write from a blank slate.
However, SOUNDING like a human is not nearly enough.
You need to be able to identify the pains and passions of your customers.
Your words need to literally cause a physical reaction in your readers.
You need to be funny, gut-wrenchingly emotional, witty, sarcastic, silly.
You need to know when to break the rules.
Being able to write great copy on command is a multi-million dollar skill.
You will use it in EVERY aspect of your marketing,
Every ad, every email, every product description, social posts, and customer service.
The list is endless.
Humblebrag incoming.
Here’s what one of our clients said about a recent email of mine.
This is exactly what I’m going for.
With all that said, you don’t need to figure everything out on your own when you can learn it from someone who has already done it.
Tune in tomorrow for PART 2 of “The only 3 marketing skills you need to master as a business owner”.
